Amex Delta Reserve Cards To Offer Centurion Lounge Access

I’m not quite sure whether to file this under ‘Wonderful’ or under ‘Shaking My Damn Head’.

According to CNBC:

Starting January 30, 2020, Delta SkyMiles® American Express Cards will have benefits that offer more ways to earn miles and feature new travel benefits, such as access to The American Express Centurion® Lounges…

Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card:

– Access to The American Express Centurion® Lounge…

Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card:

– Access to The American Express Centurion® Lounge…

Why is this such a big deal?

Currently, American Express operates Centurion Lounges in more than a half-dozen airports around the world (though primarily in the continental US), and these lounges have become quite crowded as more of American Express’ Platinum cardholders have discovered the lounges. Opening up access to Delta Reserve cardholders will exacerbate the overcrowding in Centurion lounges, although it remains to be seen how much worse it will get. American Express has been resorting to restricting access for guests during certain hours, and has been moving to a mobile app based lounge reservation system which will help them to manage/limit overcrowding.
